The copper flashing (Japanning) and the brass have been polished and the fixture has updated wiring. The glass has no chips or cracks and the fixture has no cracks or gouges. This is an original antique light fixture, made during the late 1800's to early 1900's when homes were transitioning from gas powered lights to electric. This sconce was made with both gas and electric so that the homeowner could use gas when the electricity wasn't available (it was unreliable for a time). So, the gas arm at the top of the sconce is now decorative, but could still be used as gas if you install both gas and electric lines to the fixture. The original gas attachment will be included just in case. The socket is GE, made in USA, and the shade holder has a patent date of 1890. The fixture uses one standard-base light bulb up to 60 watts, or use an LED bulb for any brightness you like as they use low wattage. Light bulb and installation screws not included.”
